Ayurveda Calling

The spa is tucked away amidst this tranquil setting and overlooks a large swimming pool that lends an unusual exotic feel to the place. The spa décor is largely inspired by the local Kerala architecture and heavily borrows elements from old homes of the region. Extensive use of wood fused with beige and cream hues gives the spa a warm feel. The local Kerala designs are also evidenced in little details even in the rooms from the roofing style to the brass latches on the door. “Ayurveda is intrinsically bound with Kerala and is the oldest healing system known that is also the most complete. Its logical, commonsense approach to health and living is combined with philosophy, psychology and spiritual guidance. It has an armoury of physical treatments from medication to massage, Yoga, cleansing and detoxification programmes, and remedies for such disorders as infertility, impotence, arthritis, hypertension, gastro-intestinal problems, chronic illness and infectious diseases. Programs & More

The Ayurveda Centre at Sattva offers purification programs that help remove the damaging effects of stress, fatigue, impurities, and environmental toxins, thereby stimulating the body’s natural rejuvenation and regeneration. Ayurveda offers excellent treatments for stress reduction. Treatments such as Abhyanga, Shirodhara and others are known to bring down stress levels considerably. Physical stress as manifested by body pains, headaches, fatigue and sleeplessness and mental stress as manifested by loss of memory, depression and anxiety are all treated successfully by Ayurvedic therapies. This apart, the resort offers several programs for weight management, Yoga for health and wellness and pampering therapies. All programs will be for a minimum of seven days with 14, 21 and 28 day packages also available. However, only for the Pampering Therapies, a minimum of three days is available. An Ayurvedic consultation is a process of discovery for the practitioner and the patient. Many aspects of your current and past situation will be discussed to assist the doctor in understanding your individual body system, temperament, attitude, possible sickness, tendency for recurrent sickness, lifestyle, the biological time of your daily routine, your natural cravings etc. Likewise all guests are given a personalised Yoga session and meditation retreat to give a chance to go inward and focus on personal healing. “Our idea is to ensure that beginners and experienced participants are supported to experience higher levels of contentment through individualized practice. Start with detailed consultation with the resident physicians and instructors define the physiological, philosophical and theoretical yogic goals and explore these with the recommended activities,” says Rashinkar.

The Rejuvenation Package (3, 7, 14, 21 days) offers every guest a total lifestyle transformation to achieve wellness and longevity with a full range of health and wellness treatments and provide long-lasting inspiration to help you continue with new, positive changes as part of your lifestyle. The focus of the Rejuvenation Package is firmly on balancing as well as rejuvenating the Mind, Body and Spirit. “We are dedicated to working toward your total life enrichment through the introduction of new experiences and the restoration of balance through the use of Ayurveda, international spa therapies, Yoga, nutrition and counseling,” says Rashinkar. The Ayurvedic Detox Package (7, 14, 21 days) primarily uses Panchakarma – Ayurveda’s primary purification and detoxification treatment. Panchakarma means the “five therapies”. These 5 therapeutic means of eliminating toxins from the body are Vamana, Virechana, Nasya, Basti and Raktamokshana. This series of five therapies help remove deep-rooted stress and illness causing toxins from the body while balancing the doshas (energies that govern all biological functions). The Curative Package (7, 14, 21 days) also uses Panchakarma that is also very good for curative purposes. The doctors will determine which one of the modalities will be best suited for the concerned individual.

The Total Beauty Package (7, 14, 21 days) is designed to bring about tranquility for the mind, body and spirit and inspire you to achieve complete beauty – inside and outside. You will, in the process, gain insights into the rituals of body care and experience a blend of modern techniques and ancient wisdom inspired by local culture and tradition. The Spa Total Beauty Package is based on the philosophy of rest, relaxation and improvement, and includes detoxification, rejuvenation, Yoga, healthy eating, skin and hair care rituals and advice on makeovers. The Weight Management Package (7, 14, 21 days) combines the Ayurvedic therapies, spa cuisine and Yoga experts to help you to lose weight during your stay. “We have created a retreat that includes all the essential elements to help accurately assess where you are, and where you should be, in terms of your ideal body weight. Our doctors will review your current eating patterns and will help you implement better habits for your return home. The doctor will also design a safe and effective program that you can take home and the knowledge and motivation to keep it going. To enhance the results of the program, we have added treatments which will help relieve tension and stress, stimulate the metabolism and boost the natural removal of toxins and fat,” explains Rashinkar. All retreats include accommodation in Villa/ Studio, all three meals a day (vegetarian, Ayurveda spa cuisine) , health and wellness consultation, body composition analysis for retreats (2 ,3, 4 and 5 days), one major treatment daily (Ayurveda), one minor treatment (Ayurveda) daily, fitness and leisure activities, Yoga and meditation, counseling for achieving better lifestyle, and complimentary airport transfers from Mangalore.

Treatment

I was advised to take one of their signature treatments called Navarakizhi. After making sure I was comfortable, my therapists (yes, this is done by at least 4 or more masseurs working in tandem!) started the procedure. The treatment starts with a head massage and then Abhyanga is done using medicated oil. A liberal application of the medicinal herbs dipped in warm medicated milk decoction or medicinal oil and moved gently over the body. The main ingredients used include medicated oil, Kerala red rice cooked in milk and tied in boluses. All the products are prepared in house to ensure that the quality is maintained. It is anti-aging and rejuvenating, it improves tissue strength and blood circulation, removes cellulite, beautifies skin, induces sound sleep, and promotes vitality. It also reduces stress and removes toxins. With so many benefits this treatment is surely something that you must try because it not just leaves you feeling rejuvenated but also refreshed to take on the challenges of the urban world with renewed vigour.

The spa menu is quite exhaustive and being located in Kerala is completely Ayurvedic in its focus. The Abhyanga Sweda includes the Abhyanga an Ayurvedic full body massage done by two therapists working together.
