So far seen as functional sweat centers, gymnasiums are the new hi-tech hotspots on offer at some of the nation’s luxurious hotels.

The Indian wellness industry stood at a whopping INR 490bn (as reported in the FICCI / PwC  report 2011 of which INR 40bn consists of fitness and slimming services (fitness and slimming centers), making the fitness and slimming sector alone account for over 65% of the wellness market.

Fitness Trends

‘Slim and fit’ have always been the ideal descriptor for a person in great form and shape, and today more than ever, the awareness of personal fitness is at an all time high. With everyone is  jumping on to  the fitness bandwagon health clubs, hotels and resorts nowadays are marrying luxury with technology to create lavish recreational spaces and fitness arenas  for their in-house guests and members.

Every gymnasium is set with the state of the art equipment and tools to suit its clients, however, a lot gymnasium today are creating tailor-made regime programs in order to club exercises with outdoor or other activities besides exercises. Some of these activities involve swimming, rowing, jogging, a spa treatment, etc while maintaining a nutritious diet. This ensures not only regular cardio and weight plans but encourages clients’ to balance their monotonous workout regimes with various newer methods to keep them fit.

The fitness centre and spa follow a diligent process of screening their employees. Internal training is given both for skills and theory after hiring the therapists. A crash training of one month is given once the candidate has joined, this makes the therapist adapted for spa therapies and refresher trainings are given in regular intervals.
