The numbers for the spa market in India look very encouraging and it is important to understand that in order to benefit from the proposed market growth.

 

The Indian wellness industry is valued at USD 2.4 billion and is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 14%. There are approximately 2400 spas in the country employing over 20,000 people.

As per the Global Spa Economic Report, the average annual turnover per Spa is approximately USD 161,000.

The above are some of the hard facts of the current position of the Indian wellness industry and these numbers will continue to grow as disposable income levels rise across the growing Indian middle class. The industry holds immense potential for a keen eyed investor.

Feasibility Study

The Indian spa market is in an infancy stage when compared to other markets in the region such as Thailand and China. Spa usage in India is still considered a ‘luxury’ by many.

As more Indians travel abroad on holidays and business trips, they will find the idea of using a spa more acceptable and they would want to use spas and similar wellness facilities when they are back home.

When we study the profile of the Indian spa user, we see that nearly 60% of the users prefer using a ‘Day Spa’ as compared to usage of a resort or destination spa. This suggests that in the coming years there would be a higher demand for Day Spas as compared to resorts or destination spas.

The Swedish massage, the Thai massage and the German Body Treatment are the most popular international treatments among the Indian consumers, with Ayurveda being more popular for the international visitor.

In designing a spa we need to know why people visit a Spa and the top 5 reasons for visiting a spa are –

  1. To relax and relieve or reduce stress.
  2. Overall wellness
  3. Pampering
  4. Soothe sore joints and muscles
  5. Self indulgence

Does your Spa provide the right facilities to look after these users?

As mentioned earlier, the Indian spa user still has inhibitions in using a spa. Although a common belief is that people mostly see Spas as a luxury, there are other reasons which deter people from visiting a spa.

Reasons for not visiting spas can include the following –

  1. I don’t have enough time to go to a spa
  2. Spas are not in a convenient location for me
  3. A hard sales approach during visits makes me uncomfortable
  4. I do not know exactly what to expect in a spa
  5. Uncomfortable with a male spa employee massaging me

In order to draw more users, Spas will have to develop a strategy which makes the consumers feel at home when they visit a spa and allows them to enjoy all aspects of the experience.

Design Requirements

The feasibility study conducted helps you analyze the key elements of your project and helps you define your market and your objectives, anticipate challenges and set realistic parameters to reach your goal.

Having conducted a detailed feasibility study and getting to understand the target market better, we can now move to the next level of putting the whole idea into shape.

When designing a spa, a lot of parameters have to be kept in mind in order to have the most functional space.

Design Layout

The overall design of the space should be welcoming and easy to understand. A simple and effective zoning system should be employed so that there is no overlap of traffic and privacy of all patrons is maintained.

It is recommended that along with single treatment rooms, there should be treatment rooms for couples.

The treatment rooms should be sound proof. It would also be a good idea to have a sound proof collapsible partition between treatment rooms so that when required, two rooms can be converted to a bigger couple’s room by removing the partition.

Energy efficiency

Today’s customers are environmentally conscious and contentious. They would like to be associated with brands that are responsible towards the society and the environment. We therefore see a lot of people today supporting LOHAS (Lifestyle of health and sustainability).

It thus becomes paramount that the Spa adopts procedures and processes which show the Spa’s dedication towards supporting this cause.

Privacy Practices for Visitors to the Spa Mantra Site

We do not collect any PII from End Users who visit Publisher Sites.

We operate the Services, which make link creation in copied and pasted content effortless to readers and, in certain cases, which make searches from copied content easier. When you, an End User, copy content from a Publisher Site and paste it into another document, the Services that have been installed on the Publisher Site may, at the publishers discretion, automatically append a link back to the original content. When you visit a Publisher Site, we collect certain non-personally identifiable information (“Non-PII”) for use on our platform (the “C&E Platform”). We enable our Publishers to use this information via the Platform for analytics purposes, and we also use some of this information to market our products and services to you and those of third parties we believe may be of interest to you as described below.

PII – We do not collect PII from End Users who visit a Publisher Site.

Non-PII – We collect Non-PII through the provision of Services for use on the C&E Platform. For example, when you visit a web page on a Publisher Site, our server logs may collect your Internet Protocol address, browser type, browser language, the date and time you visited that web page, and the web search that landed you on that web page. We may also collect information regarding what content you copy from the Publisher Site. We use cookies to improve the quality of our Services, including identifying user preferences and interests and identifying user trends. These individuals are bound by confidentiality obligations and may be subject to discipline, including termination, if they fail to meet these obligations. However, we are unable to guarantee that the security measures we take will not be penetrated or compromised or that your information will remain secure under all circumstances.

We retain records of Publisher email addresses for as long as the Publsher maintains its account.

We retain detailed records of End User activity for a maximum of 90 days. Statistical summaries and data aggregations may be kept for longer periods.

Children

We do not knowingly collect or maintain PII from any individuals – especially individuals who are under 13 years of age, and no part of our Site or Services are designed to attract people under the age of 13. Protecting the privacy of children is very important to us. If we obtain knowledge that a user is under the age of 13, we will take steps to remove that user’s data from our databases.

Links to Other Sites

Our Site and Services contain links to, and allow you to share content on, third party websites and services.
